Aetna Medicare Advantage Plans 2021

Aetna International is one of the leading health benefits providers across the globe, with a high level of professionalism and expertise accrued over time.  Started in 1853, Aetna is committed to creating a healthier and stronger global community through its all-inclusive and affordable healthcare insurance and employee benefits.  Aetna Medicare Advantage has several proven plans, all aimed at ensuring you stay healthy.  The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) rated Aetna’s PPO 4 of 5 stars in 2017.

Aetna Medicare Advantage

Aetna offers several Medicare Advantage plans to beneficiaries in several states. For instance, they offer Medicare Advantage plans in Georgia and Oregon. With an Aetna Part C plan, you get benefits of Parts A and B Original Medicare alongside other services. These may include dental care, vision, and hearing aid coverage. You also get coverage for some of your prescription drugs, hospice care, preventative care, and diagnostic tests, medical equipment, and supplies.

Aetna also offers specialized benefits such as gym and fitness membership through SilverSneakers, mail order, and over-the-counter perks.

The Medicare Advantage Plans that Aetna International provides include Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO), Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO), and Health Maintenance Organizations Point of Service (HMO-POS).

Aetna Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO)

Aetna Health Maintenance Organization has a network of up to 200,000 professionals and more than a thousand hospitals and healthcare facilities. These network providers have a special partnership with Aetna, which allows them to provide subsidized services to Aetna beneficiaries.

When you get an Aetna HMO plan 2021, you can choose a primary care physician (PCP) that acts as your first point of contact. The PCP is also a healthcare professional who manages your healthcare needs. However, if you need the help of a specialist, you meet your primary care physician, who then refers you to the required specialist.

Usually, you can find an Aetna Primary Care Physician near you within the vast network of professionals. This way, you save a lot in transportation costs while getting the best care. Aetna HMO also covers the cost of emergency room visits and urgent care anywhere you are in the world. You don’t have to see your PCP first in case of emergencies. Also, there is a limit on what you pay out-of-pocket annually. Your monthly HMO premium may vary depending on some factors. The premium you have to pay varies between $0 and $178. And the deductible you have to pay falls within the range of $0 – $1,180.

Aetna Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO)

Aetna Medicare Advantage Preferred Provider Organization PPO plan also lets you use the vast network of specialists and facilities that Aetna partners. But unlike HMO, you are not obliged to have a Primary Care Provider or use the system. PPO allows you to use any professional, facility, or specialist that you want. This is regardless of whether you have an emergency or not.

With Aetna PPO 2021, you also don’t need the referral of a care provider when you need to see a specialist or do specific tests.  Although PPO is typically more expensive than HMO, this is due to the flexibility it offers. Also, using out of network providers may attract more out-of-pocket costs.

Your monthly PPO premium may vary depending on some factors. The premium is between $0 to $214, while the deductible is between $0 – $1,180.

Aetna Health Maintenance Organization Point of Service (HMO-POS)

With the Aetna HMO-POS plan, you may still have to choose a primary care provider within the network in your area. When you need to see a specialist, you may also need to get a referral from your primary care physician. However, you are still not required to use the network.

HMO-POS is a compromise between HMO and PPO. While there is a network and a PCP available, you may not use them. When you do not use the network provider, you can pay at the point of service. This may increase your out-of-pocket cost.

Generally, the HMO-POS is slightly more expensive than the HMO. But it is less costly than the PPO.

Your monthly HMO-POS premium may vary depending on some factors. The premium is between $0 to $33, while the deductible is between $0 – $500.

Aetna not only offers Medicare Advantage solutions; you can choose to opt for the Aetna Part D Prescription Drugs Plans (PDP) designed for people with Original Medicare. The plan is affordable and it offers a variety of generic as well as brand name prescription drugs. You can opt for either of the SilverScript PDP or SilverScript plus PDP. However, choosing a PDP offers no medical coverage.

Aetna Medicare advantage, however, offers specialized Part C plans including Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO), Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO) and Health Maintenance Organizations Point of Service (HMO-POS). These MA plans provide the standard accrued Part A and part B benefits alongside various other benefits depending on your budget, healthcare needs, and convenience.

Most of these Medicare Advantage plans include the part D benefit. Here, we explore these Aetna Medicare Advantage plans and some of the accrued benefits of each plan.

Aetna Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO)

HMO Medicare Advantage is a plan where there is a network of facilities, healthcare providers, and doctors who have a partnership with the insurance company; in this case, Aetna Medicare Solutions. The beneficiary typically selects a primary care physician (PCP) which they work with. The PCP takes care of your healthcare issues and helps you with referrals when you need a specialist opinion, advice, or to take tests for additional healthcare.

This Medicare Advantage plan covers the cost for facilities, doctors, and hospitals within the network. However, this is not something to worry about. With over 200,000 doctors and specialists and 1900 hospitals in the Aetna network, you won’t have a problem finding a primary healthcare physician in your area for your convenience. Also, the limit to healthcare providers within the network does not apply when there is an emergency, and care is urgently required. In that case, you may use a doctor or facility closest to you that may be in or outside the network.

Most of Aetna’s HMO plans include fitness benefits through SilverSneakers, prescription drug (Part C) coverage (which you may also be able to get by mail order), dental, vision and hearing coverage and over-the-counter (OTC) benefits which allows you to get OTC items at no cost. All Aetna HMO plans cover ER and urgent care coverage worldwide and there is a limit on your out-of-pocket cost for medical care annually.

Some of the HMO plans also include transportation benefits for trips to doctor appointments etc. and meals-at-home program which ensures that meals are delivered to you in your home after discharge from hospital admission. Depending on your HMO plan, the monthly premium may vary from $0 – $178 and medical deductible may vary from $0 – $1,180.

Aetna Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO)

A Medicare Advantage PPO plan also features a network of providers. However, unlike HMO plans which only cover out of network providers during emergencies, a PPO plan may allow you to get health care services from outside of the network although there may be a slightly higher out-of-pocket cost. You also may not need to have a primary care physician or require a referral to see a specialist.

Aetna PPO plans also limit your out of pocket annual cost for medical care and covers ER and urgent care worldwide. Most of Aetna’s PPO plans include fitness benefits through SilverSneakers, prescription drug (Part C) coverage (which you may also be able to get by mail order), dental, vision and hearing coverage and over-the-counter (OTC) benefits which allows you to get OTC items at no cost.

Some of the plans also include transportation benefits for trips to doctor appointments etc. and meals-at-home program which ensures that meals are delivered to you in your home after discharge from hospital admission. Depending on your PPO plan, monthly premium may vary from $0 – $214 and medical deductible may vary from $0 – $1,800.

Aetna Health Maintenance Organization Point of Service (HMO-POS)

A Medicare Advantage HMO-POS plan is typically an HMO plan which doesn’t require the beneficiary to use a provider network. Although using a facility or service provider out of network may cost more. Some Aetna HMO-POS plans require a PCP or referral to see a specialist. All HMO plans limit your annual out-of-pocket medical cost, including ER and urgent care coverage worldwide, prescription drug coverage prescription drug mail order benefits, OTC benefits, and fitness benefits.

Most plans include dental, visual and hearing coverage while some plans include transportation benefits and for trips to doctor appointments, etc. and meals-at-home program which ensures that meals are delivered to you in your home after discharge from hospital admission. Depending on your plan, monthly premium may vary from $0 – $33 and medical deductible may vary from $0 – $500.
