Anthem Medicare Advantage Plans 2021

As the election period for 2021 is fast approaching, you may be exploring which Medicare plan works for you or if you are looking forward to having a change of plan. This article will help you explore the Anthem Medicare Plans in 2021.

Those enrolled in the advantage plans may be privileged than those under the Original Medicare; however, an advantage plan doesn’t eliminate the original one. You must be enrolled in Medicare to be eligible for the advantage plans. The two most common types for their lower premiums are HMO or PPO.

The best Medicare Plan is one that incorporates your doctor, and depending on your health condition, it’s important to weigh which one best works for you. At the end of the article, you will find some guiding tips on how to apply for the plans. That aside, there are different medicare advantage plans offered by Anthem insurance, we will expand on HMO and PPO.

Medicare Advantage Plans Explained HMO or PPO?

HMO is an acronym for Health Maintenance Organization. With this plan, you get your services from your plan’s networks. At times, before seeing a specialist, you may be conditioned to bring referrals to your caregiver; if you don’t, Plan C will not cover the medical expenses, and you are forced to dig into your own pockets. Some advantages of this plan are that the monthly expenses may be lower. Secondly, the documentation required is minimal.

PPO is an abbreviation for the preferred provider organization. The plan uses medical practitioners in the same network; however, there is an additional cost should you need doctors and hospitals out of the network. The one advantage with this one is that the extra costs are lower compared to the HMO. Also, referrals are not a necessity as long as they are within the plan inclusive of specialists or urgent care.

Anthem Medicare Advantage Plans Explained

Anthem has Medicare options for everyone; Medicare advantage plans, prescription drug coverage plans, Medicare dental and vision coverage, and Medicare supplemental plans. Medicare Advantage Part C combines Parts A, B, and D. Part D, on the other hand, ensures prescription drugs. The supplement plan/Medigap covers what the original Medicare doesn’t, like personal caregivers and transportation. Dental and vision coverage is another option. However the Advantage plans include dental and vision check-ups, but if you want more of the services, then you can add-on the two packages either on your supplement or Advantage Plan.

How to Apply for Anthem Medicare Plans 2021

If you are turning 65, then maybe its time to consider enrolling for a medicare plan. You have seven months Initial Enrollment Period; three months before turning 65, on your birthday month and three months after your birthday. This is good ample time to go over the most favorable Medicare Plan. Depending on the state you reside in, coverage rates may be different. For example, Oregon Medicare advantage rates may differ from Georgia Medicare advantage rates.

First, ensure you are covered in Part A and Part B. If you are acquiring the social security benefits then Part A and B are automatic. Alternatively, if you are not eligible for the security benefits, you can sign up at the Social Security Administration portal. Below are some of the documents you will need:

  • Original birth certificate
  • Proof of U.S citizenship
  • A copy of the W-2 form
  • Social Security Card

Once you are enrolled with Parts A & B, you may consider the advantage plans depending on your need. For example, if you frequently get drugs for managing a condition, then Plan D will be ideal.
